Good coaching can make all the difference to debaters. The support and knowledge that a coach offers can significantly raise debating performance and, just as importantly, enjoyment of the debating experience.
What are Coaching Seminars?
The QDU offers Coaches’ Seminars at the beginning of the year to instruct coaches in both the mechanics of QDU debating and in techniques and strategies for helping students achieve their full potential. They also provide a useful forum for sharing ideas, answering questions and facilitating communication between schools and the QDU. Conducted by experienced coaches, these seminars have received excellent feedback from participants.
Who should attend?
The coaching seminars are an extremely useful learning tool for both beginner and advanced coaches. There are two different seminars available:
Beginners: Basic debating overview, preparation techniques, style and content advice, training games and activities for younger debaters.
Advanced: Strategic case preparation for older levels, development of more sophisticated argumentation based on more advanced analytical techniques such as group segmentation, focus on tactical debating including strategic use of definitions, models and caselines.
An attendance fee of $20 per person is payable on arrival. The QDU will also be offering a 25% discount for fully paid (pre-purchased) tickets to this event.
