Competition Format
The QDU Secondary Schools Competition consists of four preliminary debating rounds held throughout terms one and two, followed by a finals series held in term three. The preliminary round debates are held at selected schools throughout South East Queensland.
ALL DEBATES in the Toowoomba Region are scheduled to commence at 7:00 pm and 8.15 pm in all rounds. In all cases the QDU gives special compensation to all teams that travel from outlying areas and we try in all cases to secure 7.00 pm times for all preliminary round debates to assist with the extended travelling times required to participate in the QDU competition.
The exact time of all debates is set out in the competition draw.
Please note that the above times are the start times of the debate. In the event of a secret subject round, students need to be present 75 minutes earlier to prepare.
The Finals Series follows the preliminary rounds of the competition. The Toowoomba region has a stand alone Finals series that is hosted by St Joseph's College, Toowoomba. The QDU Executive compiles a finals draw which includes all teams that win three or more debates at the end of the preliminary rounds. Depending upon the number of teams eligible for the Finals, there may be a need to host preliminary finals.
