St Paul's School, Bald Hills - 9.00 am - Noon
Alexandra Hills State High School - 1.00 pm - 4.00 pm
Process
The process to become an adjudicator is relatively straightforward. Officially all adjudicators must undertake a two-step adjudicator accreditation process:
Step One: A 2-hour seminar on adjudication. The seminars will be held on the 9th, 11th, 16th and 23rd of February.
Step Two: A test with a theory component and a practical component where adjudicators watch a taped debate on DVD and then write an adjudication of who won and why. This component is conducted online so that adjudicators who would prefer to complete the test at their leisure are able to do so.
Accreditation
The QDU accredits adjudicators at various levels for the purposes of the competition.
Level 1-2: The first step for adjudicators who do not have previous experience adjudicating. Adjudicators at this level will be assigned to debates of years 5-9.
Level 3: Adjudicators may accredit to Level 3 after two years adjudicating and will be able to adjudicate years 5-12.
Level 4: Adjudicators at this level are trained specifically for the Senior A competition. Adjudicators will be invited at the discretion of the Vice-President (Adjudicators) to complete the training and sit the Level 4 test.
Teachers
The QDU is pleased to be able certify Professional Development Hours for teachers who adjudicate throughout the year. Teachers who complete the two-hour seminar and then consolidate their learning through an adjudication of two debates (1 hour) will be able to be certified with three hours of PD Training. We are able to be flexible in the assignment of teachers who also coach teams, so please contact the QDU if you have any queries.
Experienced Adjudicator Refresher
Adjudicators who have been accredited at either Level 3 or 4 for two years are not required to complete annual re-accreditation. Instead, adjudicators are required to attend, every two years, a refresher night. This enables adjudicators to watch a debate and then discuss with other adjudicators their thoughts.
